May the Lord Answer You

Back in 1978, The publishers of the Good News Bible in the United Kingdom sponsored a project to make some of the passages into songs and then record them on an album. Their idea was to have all of the established Christian musicians that were in full time ministry, to take a passage from the Good News Bible and put a melody to it.

I was one of the people that was asked to write a song and this is the one that I came up with.

It is taken from Psalm 20:1-5.

Each writer was allowed to chose any passage that they wanted and I chose this one. I felt that the words would be an encouragement to someone, as they are words of blessing. From the musical perspective they were comparatively easy to fit a tune to.

The song was written and recorded in 1978 and it was released on the “Sing Good News” album by Grapevine records in the UK.

I have never issued this track on a “Kevin Gould’ album and very few people will ever have heard it, not even my kids.

For the message of the song read Psalm 20:1-5

C                                                            Am

May the Lord answer you when you’re in trouble

C                                          Am

May the God of Jacob protect you

F                        G                  C/Am

May He send you help from His temple

F                                           G

And give you aid from Mount Zion

C                                  Am

May he accept all your offerings

F                                          G

And be pleased with all your sacrifices

            C                         Am                 F           G          C

May He give you what you desire and Make all your plans succeed

Chorus

 C                  F           G                  C/Am

Then we will shout for joy over your victory

F                                                             G

                     C        Am                F    G

Then we will shout for joy over your victory
